Rough Day

Terror threats close tunnels in Baltimore.. NYC’s 59th Street bridge is on fire.. and the DJIA just took a 70 point beating in the last hour. We had been hanging tough near the highs of this little 2 day bounce. The A/D line is -2300.
This is not a market to be trusted. […]

Foreign Banks Perk Up

As noted last week, I’m stalking the banking sector of several foreign countries for good buy candidates.. primarily in Asia and South America.
The Kookmin Bank (KB) I bought last week is starting to work for me, so it’s time to shop for a few more today.
I just added Mitsubishi Financial (MTU), a big Japanese company, […]

I’m Offcially Old

On what grounds do I proclaim this?
A SportsCenter anchor just said Allan Houston is retiring from the Knicks.
As a 12 year old child, I watched Allan’s (Louisville) Ballard High School win the 1988 Kentucky state basketball finals over Richie Farmer’s defending state champion Clay County team.
Richie scored a record 51 points in the loss, […]

Decadence

I am blessed to have witnessed Virginia’s huge 26-21 victory over Florida State in a 4-hour affair Saturday night. Our QB Marques Hagans looked better than Mike Vick. The UVa defense bent a little, but never broke. Solid contributions all around.
The 1995 Virginia football team - - which also beat the ‘Noles in a memorable […]

Old School

The selling abated somewhat today. Still, it has been a really slow week for me, with attractive trade setups more elusive than Iraqi WMD.
Thus it doesn’bother me much to skip tomorrow’s trading session, as I’m heading out tonight for Washington DC… tonight will be a fun a pit stop en route to Charlottesville, VA for […]

I must be a Kook

Kookmin Bank (symbol KB) popped up on one of my scans today. I like the pullback to the 50 day moving avg.. and to the August highs - where I’ve drawn that horizontal line. Picked up some shares of the “Korean Citibank” just now..
Long KB

Change Still Needed

After New Orleans was hit by Katrina, two similar pictures surfaced on Yahoo News within hours of each other.. Click Here to see them side-by-side.
Now that just ain’t right.

Grrrr..

All signals point to the market entering a significant Bear phase. Leading stocks are getting absolutely hammered. The DJIA was chillin’ for 3 days right near this 10,250 level, with very little movement.. The calm before the storm.
We just said “buh-bye”to that 10,250 level. The Dow has already had a 120 point […]

Other Side of the World

With so many country/region ETF’s now trading on US exchanges, it’s really simple to make a play in foreign markets these days. Trading them profitably is just as difficult as ever.
I grabbed some of the Australian stock market index today.. I like the pullback to support around $18.40.. where the bottom of the uptrend […]

iPod Fad Peaking ?

Apple just reported earnings. They sold 6.5 million iPods during the quarter — Awesome ! Well.. that was only 1 million less than Wall Street expected.
Reality TV just peaked.. why not MP3 players too ?
There will always a “next great thing” to take over.
Folks (including me) are comparing the recent iPod craze with […]
