What else.. gasoline prices!
Remember those emails imploring people to “bankrupt the oil companies” by not buying gasoline for 1 day ? A pretty comical thought, though I’m sure some Pollyannas would still believe this — especially as some desperately seek places to lay blame.
Well, here’s the (more timely) comebacker to that urban legend, courtesy of […]

Fiction becomes Truth

Wow ! Usually the movie comes after !
The writers at Fox could not have been more timely with their — at the time — seemingly over-the-top “mockumentary” this past June, Oil Storm. The 2 hour drama(tization) portrays an oil-dependent America that suffers a multi-year gasoline price spike as a result of a […]

Huntin’ Pullbacks

This afternoon my father and Louis Prichard, both of Kentucky Bank fame, stopped by the trading desk after our lunch at the Lexington Club (which is an old school gentlemen’s club, not like this joint which came up on Google when I searched for a picture)
As I know they’re more interested in […]

After covering 1/2 of that Wal-Mart short on Tuesday for $1 gain, I covered the rest for a $2 gain today.
It’s a bit too extended to the downside here, and looks like some bottom fishers could pop the stock for a few days.
At which point… mmm, I can’t wait.

Slim Pickin’s

It is absolutely dead out there. At 2pm, the DJIA is flatlined, up 6 measly points, with the range from top to bottom only 30 points wide !
Sometimes there is much more action in invididual stocks than the big market indicies represent.. Unfortunately, today is not such a day. Most of the stocks I’m […]

Wally World

While Wal Mart (WMT) still makes money hand over fist, they are now growing much much slower than before. This makes sense.. even us Americans have limits on how much cheap plastic made-in-China crap we can buy.
WMT’s financials represents the consumption habits of the lower 1/3 of America, wealth-wise… The same group that gets hit […]

1 Winner, 1 Loser

At $33 now, we’re up about 7% on this recent entry into HUBG.. Avg entry was around $31 flat. The top chart shows the conditions when I bought.. a monthlong consolidation of the huge up day when earnings were released. I was betting that the low that had held for a few days, right around […]

The pattern diverges

I got the setup I was looking for yesterday. The morning gap down in FLR, right to a recent basing area in the $59-61 range. I bought the opening range break (stock didn’t open until 9:45.. the NYSE style on big gappers). However I scratched the trade after my expected reaction did […]

Deja vu

Inco (N) shows a very similar setup to VLO last week. Missed the early entry, so had to pay up about 1%.. as buy volume started flowing in.. I couldn’t just watch it go w/out me. Just got long at 42.10 for long-term accounts, and am looking for a multi-month up move here.
I would stop […]

Similar setup

Fluor reported so-so earnings this evening.. and traded down 3-4 points after hours. It’s going to gap down in the morning. Becuase of the sector, I’d only play it to the long side at that point.
The chart above is CIB, a consumer-focused bank in lovely Colombia. In this case, it was a different corporate event […]
